Week 10(2S)- Unbelief “Satan Gets a Grip”

Good Morning,

We just learned about the time in history where there was a great revival.  There was Spurgeon, Moody, Taylor, Studd, Mueller and many more that were bringing the Word of God back to the spotlight.  It was the Age of Reason, the Enlightenment era.  Diesm, humanism and pantheism (the false idea that God is not separate from nature but that nature is God) were creeping in to human thinking.  There was a great war going on for the minds of people.  Satan was hard at work!  But as we know, Satan’s hard work is nothing for our GOD!

The end of the 19th century proved to be a time when Satan would get a grip!

Darwinism (journal entry)

It is truly a tragic story.  Darwin had a passion.  He had a love for nature.  God gave him that passion!  And yet instead of acknowledging the Creator he chose to worship creation.  But… like the video mentioned Darwin came from a home where that type of thinking was common.  He did not think it up on his own.  His grandfather had the same crazy ideas.  The enemy used Charles to bring it to fruition.  Sadder still, Charles had a son, George Darwin who was known for his idea of fission theory.  This theory states that the early earth spun so rapidly that a part of it came off and hurled into space and became the moon.  This theory is not even accepted anymore.  Darwin read and accepted theories from people who did not believe in God and it changed his mind.

Gods word will prove true every time.  We need to be so careful about what we are reading, watching, and who we are listening to.  We need to guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Phil 4:7)

George Hegel (journal entry)

Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel - Wikipedia

“Harmony through conflict”

Hegel was a German historian and philosopher and introduced dialectic thinking . Which is the idea that one fact or idea (thesis) works against a contradictory idea (antithesis) to create a “new fact” (synthesis). He believed conflict would create a better world.  These ideas are what stirred up people and caused revolutions. Instead of seeing history as a straight line of events or as a chain of events guided by God, Hegel saw the course of history as a swirl of often conflicting ideas that he called the historical dialectic.

Immanuel Kant (journal entry)

A German philosopher, Kant believed that the senses and the mind were the only ways of knowledge and that man cannot know God or the soul by these.  His philosophy was idealism.  This philosophy bases thought and action on the way one wishes things were rather than on reality.  This idea opened the door to a more dangerous philosophy, relativism (truth is relative), it is dependent on man’s reasoning.

Look up:

Jeremiah 17:9

Romans 8:6

Romans 12:2

Proverbs 14:12

write out bolded words(and definitions) and scriptures

All of these thoughts and ideas these men introduced into the world, changed the world.  These ideas led to socialism, tyranny, dictators, and regimes.

Socialism is a political and economic system in which most forms of economically valuable property and resources are owned or controlled by the public or the state.

Leaders like Stalin, Mao and Hitler believed in these ideas.  We know the horror and destruction their leadership lead to.  The idea that conflict produces a better world or that mans reasoning is enough to dictate what is true or not is outrageous and dangerous!

Is creation a viable model of origins in today’s modern scientific era? (journal entry)

I want you to listen to the opening statements (only) from each of the gentlemen. (fast forward to 13:46)

Answer the following questions in your journal.

What is significantly different about what Mr. Ham says and what Mr. Nye says?

Which one do you believe answered the question?

See you all in class on Friday.

Blessings,

Mrs. Eunice
